Caroline & Ethan
Caroline and Ethan met at a church small group. They share many interests and values, which made Caroline fall in love with Ethan after just a few weeks. After she introduced him to her family on Christmas Eve she knew he was the one. They are looking forward to facing life’s highs and lows together. They also can’t wait to be able to spend every day with their best friend!
The Proposal
On Caroline’s birthday, they made plans to go out for lunch and spend the afternoon at Frederick Meijer Gardens, followed by a birthday dinner with their parents. After the Gardens, when they were headed to dinner, or so Caroline thought, Ethan said that he needed to stop by his parents house to pick something up that his mom forgot. When they arrived at their house, he asked Caroline to help him grab something from the back door of the house. When they walked around the house, both of their families were standing in the yard under lights, holding a sign that said “Happy Birthday, Caroline!” And after they sang, they told Caroline to look at the sign, and it had unfolded and now read “Caroline, Will You Marry Me?” When she looked over to Ethan, he was on one knee and said “Wanna get married?” Of course she said “Yes!”
The Day & Design
They would describe their wedding style as light and airy, traditional, elegant, and romantic. Their wedding also had a subtle theme, which was Disney’s Tangled! They chose their processional song, cake, bridesmaid and flower girl dresses, and flowers/decor based on colors and themes from the movie. They also incorporated a few Disney items that weren’t Tangled themed, such as their guestbook and recessional song. Caroline and Ethan also included two tributes to their grandparents who couldn’t be with them: Caroline’s “something blue” pendants that hung from her bouquet, and small wooden rocking chairs inscribed with each of their grandparents’ names on the memorial table.
The Couple’s Advice
Caroline would say, from personal experience, to try not to stress about the little things, because even if something little does go wrong on your day, most likely none of the guests will notice, and your day will still be magical! She would also recommend stopping to smell the roses, so to speak. You spend so much time planning, make sure that you can remember what it feels like to be getting married! Ethan and Caroline enjoyed taking time to eat dinner and reflect on how they were feeling and how the night was going.
