Emily & Nate
Nate and Emily first met during Nate’s junior year and Emily’s freshman year at Adrian College in 2014. They were both runners on the cross country and track team and Nate slyly got Emily’s number from the team contact list during welcome week. He texted Emily to “make sure she knew where to go” for a team get together that night but had full intention of keeping the conversation going (and that he did!). Amongst all the new people they were meeting at college and on their team, they knew during the first week they met there was something special between them.
The Proposal
Emily and Nate moved to Tennessee and fell in love with hiking the many scenic trails and exploring nature. Nate surprised Emily with a proposal at a lookout point on one of their favorite hikes on Signal Mountain in Chattanooga after 8 years of dating. She didn’t know it was coming, but it was the easiest ‘yes’ and the best day!
The Day & Design
Boho, rustic, modern, organic. Emily and Nate DIY’d a lot of the wedding details/decor and had fun making everything unique to their style. One of their favorite parts was making a bench prior to the big day and branding it as part of their ceremony, and then having guests sign it during the reception! Another special detail was making their own LED foam letters to go in front of the head table. They also had their college teammate as their flower man and their dog as their ring bearer!
The Couple’s Advice
Do as much as you can as early as you can. You might think you’ll be able to wrap up a lot of smaller details as the day gets closer, but those last few months really fly by and there’s so many little details and decisions to make. Also, try to get on the dance floor and spend some time with just the two of you. You’ll be pulled in so many different directions but tune it all out at times and just soak in the special moments!
