Mill & Tom
Mill and Tom met when Tom was a physical therapy student on a clinical rotation at the hospital where Mill was a resident physician. Coincidentally, the day they met in the hospital, they also ran into each other later at the gym. The rest is history.
For Mill, there wasn’t a specific moment where she realized Tom was “the one.” Instead, it was the way their relationship flourished over time. The trust, support, and comfort from their relationship made Mill realize she never wanted to be without Tom.
The Proposal
In January 2019, Mill had just finished her medical residency. In celebration, she and Tom planned a trip through the Canadian Rockies. In preparation for their trip, they purchased new gear. Tom recommended they go for a hike with their new gear beforehand. On the day of this hike, Mill did not think they had time constraints so she went to the gym and took her time. When Tom kept calling asking when she would be on the way to meet him, Mill rushed out of the gym in her gym clothes and did not shower. Mill looked like a mess AND was annoyed that she was being rushed from her workout. They drove to a nature preserve in Grand Rapids and started their hike. Along the way, they came across a log cabin. All of a sudden Mill noticed Tom’s sisters inside the cabin and when she looked back, Tom was on one knee. It was a beautiful moment in the serenity of nature and completely caught Mill by surprise. Tom’s sisters were there to capture the moment.
The Day & Design
Mill and Tom would describe their wedding style as elegant, timeless, and natural. Mill wanted to incorporate natural elements into their decor including tree stumps, wood chargers, and greenery. A few details the couple enjoyed included their unity symbol, which was a Magnolia tree that is now planted in their yard. Mill and Tom also crafted signature drinks around their cats, and Mill’s sister-in-law created the perfect signage for the drinks.
The Couple’s Advice
Mill and Tom scheduled time for just the two of them between the ceremony and reception. Between the craziness of the day and constant interruptions, they were so happy to have 15 minutes of just them to reflect on that moment, their special day, all their hard work, and enjoy a celebratory glass of champagne. They’d recommend this to any couple.
